“Draft resolution can undergo changes”

According to him, the draft in its present shape included suggestions from the Council member states.

“There will be talks on the draft resolution, and any new comments and demands for amendments will certainly be considered. It is habitual that the UN looks into several versions of the draft before compiling a finalized proposal and putting it to vote,” he said.

The United States added the institution of a UN special envoy for refugees, internally displaced persons and the missing to the draft text. Instead of stressing the unique nature of the Kosovo case, the solution itself has been marked as special or “sue generis”.

Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement the new version of the draft resolution on Kosovo was still unacceptable to Russia, stressing that Russia’s position on the matter remains unchanged.

“The issue of implementation of UN resolution 1244 has to be solved in talks between Belgrade and Serbia. We still firmly believe the two sides should continue negotiations,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday.

Commenting on the proposed resolution, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica said he expected Serbia’s initiative regarding a fresh dialogue between Belgrade and Priština "to meet the UN approval."

“Our initiative is a realistic way to exit a dead-end street we entered owing to Martti Ahtisaari’s plan,” he said.

In his opinion, a major mistake was made by accepting Ahtisaari’s suggestion that it was "impossible for the two sides to reach a compromise over Kosovo."
