Albanian PM: No alternative to Ahtisaari plan

“Albania fully supports the plan, and the sooner a new resolution on Kosovo is adopted the better,” Berisha said stressing that success of Ahtisaari’s plan was of immense importance for Albania and other neighbors of the province.

When asked to give his opinion as to what might happen if Russia vetoed the U.S.- sponsored draft resolution , the EU Enlargement Commissioner replied he expected that “the UN Security Council would manage to adopt the resolution and pave the way for a sustainable solution without unnecessary delay.”

“It is a true test for genuine and responsible multilateralism and I believe that all UN SC members, including the non-permanent ones, will give its best to enable the successful adoption of the resolution,” Rehn said with reference to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s position according to which international relations must be based on multilateralism, without any unilateral moves.

Rehn praised Albania’s constructive approach to the process of Kosovo status settlement, stressing its significance for the stability in the region.
