VISOKI DECANI A strong explosion was heard near the Visoki Decani monastery in Kosovo early Friday, officials say. Kosovo information services reported that the blast occurred at 1:10 a.m. in the vicinity of the monastery. Blast near Serb monastery in Kosovo The monks residing in Visoki Decani speculated that the blast was caused by a grenade fired from a nearby hill. They reported having heard a bang first, than a whizzing sound followed by a loud blast. The Italian KFOR contingent troops appointed to secure the monastery from a base stationed nearby, reacted immediately and began to search for the assailants, Kosovo information services reported. The situation in the monastery was stabilized and under control, KFOR troops said. The Decani’s abbot speculated that the attack was intended to intimidate the monks and KFOR troops. “It is known that the area is swarming with armed extremist groups.
