“Serbia won’t join EU any time soon”

“The EU has a policy of allowing membership to countries that have orderly relations with their neighbors, and that condition will certainly be put before Serbia as well. I simply don’t see any of the parties close to the government accepting such a condition”, Milanović told the daily.

According to him, another reason was “pessimism and cynicism” that dominate the EU when it comes to further enlargement. Milanović believes the EU will not enlarge “for at least a decade, in not longer.”

Milanović described the rule of Slobodan Milošević as the worst in Serbia’s economic history from 1804 until today, excluding WW1.

He described Milošević’s regime as doing more damage to Serbia than that of Ceausescu in Romania, since Milošević’s destructive reign came at a dynamic time, when the technological development was taking off and huge political and strategic changes occurred.
