Government talks to resume tomorrow

The partiees are expected to discuss political programs, leaving personnel issues for later.

Professor of the Faculty for Political Sciences Zoran Stojilković told B92 that the key political players should carry out strategic negotiations followed by “an official offer of premiership to mark the agreement reached on the cabinet. The Parliament would shortly there after ratify the Government”

“The DS as the party of the democratic bloc that won the most votes entered the cabinet building game with the DSS. The two parties will balance their relations and reach a coalition agreement. There will be no new postponements”, Stojilković said.

“Serbian citizens have, to date, tolerated the reluctance of party leaders to complete the cabinet talks due to the current circumstances, but they are losing patience as days without a government go by. A situation in which we lack the most significant institutions is hardly sustainable”, he added.

“DS and DSS have certain differences, particularly as to their tactics, the hierarchy of set goals, economic and social policy. Their views diverge when it comes to the international community, the Hague and the EU as well. However, they may bridge their gap, and as I see it, there’s a mutual mistrust at work in regards to the future of the joint agreement following the distribution of ministries”, Stojiljković concluded.

G17 Plus: Finance Ministry at all costs

Belgrade daily Večernje Novosti reported that G17 Plus would insist on getting the Finance Ministry at all costs. Should the party fall short of achieving the goal, it will remain in the opposition.

G17 Plus representatives claim they are ready to become a part of a democratic and pro-European Government by claiming responsibility for the government sectors which keep the domestic currency stable, balance the regional development and provide employment, the daily quoted its sources as saying.

“Koštunica wishes to wipe out the DS”

Branslav Lečić, member of the Liberal Democratic Party, said that DSS leader Vojislav Koštunica strives for premiership “at any cost”, even if it would mean the proclamation of new parliamentary elections.

“His unyielding wish to be the prime minister only says he wants power to such an extent he is ready to face new elections and destroy the Democrats”, Lečić was quoted as saying.

Lečić argued that it would be logical that the DS gained the PM post as the democratic bloc party with the majority seats in the Parliament.

Lečić reiterated the position of LDP concerning the upcoming cabinet talks by saying that  “LDP would enter into a government consisting of the DS, LDP and ethnic minority parties”
