Mladić, EU and elections

”It would be enough for the president or the prime minister to address the nation and say this is not simply an international obligation, and it doesn’t need to be done because Carla Del Ponte is demanding it, or so that we could get the money from Brussels in return, but that we want to do this for our army, for our nation, for the sake of our history”, Drašković said.

Defense minister Zoran Stanković said he supported president Tadić’s initiative to remove the military secret status from the minutes from the Supreme Defense Council meeting when Mladić’s case was discussed. However, he added that he did not think this should be done “right away”, as it would be “used in the election campaign”.

Stanković also denied speculation that Serbia was invited into Partnership for Peace only in order to have it send troops to Iraq and Afghanistan, and purchase new weapons.
