Vladimir Arsenijevic, author of In the Hold and Mexico-War Diary, led discussions with Bosnian authors Miljenko Jergovic and Lamija Begagic as part of a program entitled The Sarajevo Notebook.

As a former guest of honor of the fair (2003), Canada also strongly represented its literary and publishing industry with nine Canadian authors, including Serb-Canadian writer David Albahari, in attendance.   Renee Hudon, the President of the Quebec Book Fair, and Robert McDougall, the Canadian Ambassador who called Belgrade’s fair a “world class event,” also made appearances.  Author Gay Gavriel Kay, whose book Sailing to Sarantium has recently been translated into Serbian, said that in his travels around the world he has seen that “books and literature have been and continue to be something that we can share with each other,” despite world conflicts.  For this reason he said he was pleased to be able to “share in this celebration of words and literature” in Belgrade.

In further efforts to connect with other book fairs around the world, the Belgrade Book Fair is also sponsoring a lottery, the winner of which will receive free tickets for to New York to attend the 2007 New York Book Fair.  The winner will be drawn on the final day of the fair, October 30, at 2pm at the USA exhibit in the main hall.  All visitors are eligible for entry.

This year the fair includes over 800 exhibitors, 300 of which from 21 foreign countries.  The exhibits also include interactive displays dedicated to a range of subjects including Nikola Tesla and the history of Politika

Monday October 30 is the last day of the Fair.   For more information see the Fair’s website
