Journalists take a ride on tram

Yesterday, the city transportation officials organized a ride-along for journalists to see whether some media claims that the traffic signals and rails are faulty, could be true.

Instead of continuing straight, the tram turned left, hit the back of another tram which was heading towards the main train station and jumped out of the rail, hitting a pole. The media made guesses that the causes of the accident were faulty blinkers, mistakes made in the changing of rails, among other things.

Director of the City Traffic Company Slaven Tica said that there were no technical errors.

All of the tram’s turns are automated, which means that the tram driver must look at the signals which show where the turn will be about 20 meters before the turn, and react appropriately.

The investigation into the accident being conducted by the Internal Affairs Ministry is ongoing.
