Anti-corruption agency to be formed

Verica Barać, president of the Council for the Fight Against Corruption, told B92 that the founding of the independent agency is the Government’s effort to formally realizing the strategy for the fight against corruption.

“In fact, this effort by the Government is aimed to end the work of all current bodies. Instead of using some of the good experiences, one new model will be created which will be as independent as the judicial system and all other institution are here.” Barać said.

The agency will also take over the financial control of parties and election campaigns from the Republic Elections Commission and the Parliamentary Finance Council.

A new addition to the law is that the use of public resources is no longer allowed, and rallies at which people participate in on behalf of political officials for the promotion of political organizations will also be prohibited.

A minister speaking at a press conference of a party which he or she presides over, will have to state whether he is giving a statement from the perspective of his party or the political office he or she holds within the government.
