Koštunica calm over Hague

Political analyst Dejan Anastasijević said that sanctions would burn the bridges of cooperation between Serbia and The Hague.

He predicts that Del Ponte will give a negative report in Brussels of Serbia’s cooperation and the implementation of the action plan to arrest Ratko Mladić. Anastasijević said that Del Ponte will tell officials that Serbia is not cooperating and will urge them to apply more pressure on Serbia, but nothing more drastic than that.

According to B92’s sources, Del Ponte’s report will be negative, but “constructive.”

Those who met with Del Ponte over the last two days say that she has not lost all faith in the current government’s ability to arrest Mladić and she does not want to stir up a conflict with Belgrade.

Anastasijević said that at this moment, Kosovo is the dominant priority for both the international community and Serbia.

“It is completely unbelievable to me that a government which has shown such indecisiveness in trying to solve the Mladić question, would be able to take any radical steps towards doing so in the pre-election period. I doubt that an arrest will take place, not even of a lesser-known indictee, because there is fear that this will give the radicals ‘ammunition’ for attacking the government.” Anastasijević said.

Del Ponte blames Kovač and Bulatović

Carla Del Ponte told Military Security Agency Chief Svetko Kovač and Security Information Agency Chief Rade Bulatović that she holds them directly responsible for the fact that Mladić has not been extradited to the Tribunal, according to daily Blic.

During a five-hour discussion with the Chief Coordinator of the Hague Cooperation Action Plan Vladimir Vukčević, Kovač and Bulatović, Del Ponte said that it is unacceptable to give Vukčević marginal information while hiding the most essential facts.

According to Blic, Kovač and Bulatović told Del Ponte that they are working intensively on finding and arresting Mladić, but that the agencies do not have any information on where he is located currently.

Večernje Novosti learned that Vukčević and Del Ponte have been analyzing in detail all information related to Mladić; what his helpers know, what the address was at which he was hiding at last, who he was with, and whether there are traces of a new hiding place.

Del Ponte has a special team that is looking for Mladić along with the Serbian agencies. All recent information shows that Del Ponte’s team is making more progress than the Belgrade agencies, the daily reports.

Asked why this is so, the daily’s source said, “Because The Hague wants to arrest him.”
