Ahtisaari favorite to win Nobel Peace Prize

Ahtisaari favorite to win Nobel Peace Prize
Helisingin Sanomat reports that a book by journalist Katri Merikallio detailing Ahtisaari’s peace efforts was published on Thursday. An English language version of the book is to come out on Friday next week.The book sees Ahtisaari rising above others as the giant of peace diplomacy, in the negotiations and the arrangements that required the hard work of an extensive background team.
In just seven months Ahtisaari managed to work out a peace treaty between the ancient enemies. The agreement between the Indonesian government and GAM was signed in Helsinki on August 15th, 2005, Helisingin Sanomat reports.
Oslo’s Institute for Peace Research director Stein Tenesson acknowledges Ahrisaari’s achievements in Aceh, noting that his UN Special Envoy for Kosovo talks engagement may diminish his chances. “What Serbs are saying does not work in his favor. Neither does his style, since he is always very direct in his statements. However, the Nobel Committee may choose to show understanding for his personality”.
