Tomislav Nikolić told B92 that his party’s major demand regarding the position of Vojvodina within the new constitution was accepted, which is to make sure that Vojvodina does not have its own constitution and that its regional parliament cannot pass laws.

“We can now talk about what the SRS is willing to allow, but that was the condition which we would not continue on the constitutional work without. This condition was accepted, by the prime minister and the president. I think that this story is now finished with and that there is nothing more to discuss, simply, I see the status of Vojvodina on the level at which it is currently and I believe that this is the highest level of autonomy that it needs to have.” Nikolić said.

Nikolić said that Vojvodina will have a statute that will allow its parliament to make decisions, resolutions, declarations, and will offer it the ability to use local and transferred funds.

Speaker of the Vojvodina Parliament Bojan Kostreš has asked his Serbian counterpart Predrag Marković to send him the full text of the new constitutional proposal in order for the officials of the Vojvodina Parliament to familiarize themselves with it. Kostreš said that he found out from the media that the consultations for the new constitution have been finished and that all important points of the document have been agreed upon.
