Foreign services to help in Mladić search

“The military, police and other security structures must work together on locating Ratko Mladić. A special plan of action must be created, which Koštunica will be presenting to Brussels, and we will try and solve this problem with the help of the EU and the US.” Dinkić said.

Serbia will use Croatia’s plan of action for arresting Ante Gotovina as a model for its own. Serbian President Boris Tadić will also be participating in the creation of the plan. His advisor Jovan Simić told B92 that the plan of action can help Serbia in a number of ways.

“The logistics that foreign services and the international community can give us are very important in the location process. This will be an indirect method of showing that we cannot get to Mladić but we are doing everything that we can, which would represent somewhat of an abolition of this problem. If this calls for cooperation between the international community and our services and country in a united plan for locating and catching war crimes indictees, then I think that that is the right way to take care of this problem.” Simić said.

President of the National Hague Cooperation Council, Rasim Ljajić, said that the Croatian authorities made a plan of action before beginning their search for General Gotovina. Ljajić said that he does not know what can be added to the Serbian plan that has not already been executed, adding that a lot has been done by Serbia already: the web of Mladić’s helpers has been infiltrated, his movement in the past has been reconstructed, and the web of people financially supporting him has also been cut off.

“Therefore, with or without a plan of action the same job awaits us, and that is to locate, arrest and extradite Mladić.” Ljajić said.
