Telekom to be sold "only at right price"

Aleksandar Vucic has reiterated that the state-owned Telekom Srbija telecommunications company will be sold "only if a good price is received."

Telekom to be sold "only at right price"

Asked to comment on reports published on the Pistaljka whistelblowing website, that the government's privatization adviser for Telekom, Lazard, would be in a conflict of interest considering it is also a strategic partner to the U.S. investment fund Apollo - that should, according to reports last week, bid together with Telekom Slovenije - Vucic said that such claims are "a shame," and that Lazard "will react themselves."

"And my response to those who are saying that those buying Telekom are 'no Samaritans' and are lowering the price every day, I must say I don't understand that attempt to return to socialist self-management in 2015," the prime minister said, and added:

"It's easy to sit irresponsibly, look at the sky, and in the end not be held responsible for anything and anywhere."

He added that the critics of the planned sale, i.e., "those now saying that those buying Telekom are not Samaritans" - kept quiet "when they should have sold something for 1.1 billion and when we were supposedly strong, while today after so many years of the crisis, 1.4 billion is too little for them."

Also on Monday, B92 learnedthat four offers had arrived for Telekom Srbija - but neither the ministry in charge of the deal nor the Privatization Agency revealed any more details.

The bids should be opened by the end of the week. It was previously announced that they would be opened this Monday.

Telekom's trade unions last week organized a protest against the privatization.
