"No re-exports of EU goods"; minister travels to Moscow

"We have stepped up border and customs control as well as the control carried out by the phytosanitary inspectorate," the minister said, adding that the flow of goods entering Serbia is being tracked to prevent re-exports.

Earlier on, Ljajić said that Serbia must not allow any abuse related to re-exporting.

"We must not let someone's 300-400 tons of apples exported jeopardize our potential export total of 150,000 tons of that fruit for this year," Ljajić said previously.

"Our customs administration will step up efforts to prevent such a situation from occurring, while producers and exporters who make an attempt to profit in a fraudulent manner will be punished most severely," he announced.

Two weeks ago, Russia responded to the sanctions Western countries introduced against it by banning for one year food imports from the EU, the U.S., and several others countries.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that Serbian Minister of Agriculture Snežana Bošković-Bogosavljević will meet with Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolay Vasilyevich Fyodorov in Moscow on Thursday to discuss opportunities for increasing exports and placement of Serbian agricultural products to the Russian market.

Besides Minister Bogosavljević-Bošković, the Serbian delegation will include Assistant Minister Milanka Davidović, chief of the Agriculture Ministry’s cabinet Andrej Bojić, Director of the Plant Protection Directorate Nebojša Milosavljević, Veterinary Inspection chief Sanja Čelebićanin, adviser to the prime minister for agriculture Dragan Glamočćc, President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) Željko Serti, and Adviser at the PKS Board of International Economic Relations Dejan Delić.

The delegation from Serbia will be received by Fyodorov and one of his advisers, and heads of Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance and the Ministry of Agriculture's International Cooperation Department.
