The report, compiled by ACI, is the only air transport report which includes the full range of civil aviation passenger flights: network, low cost, charter and others.

Moldova's Chisinau tops the list ahead of Nikola Tesla, with Athens and Skopje airports close behind.

The growth trend at the Belgrade airport continued in July with the record 539,823 passengers, adding to around 2.5 million passengers handled since the beginning of the year, the airport said in a release.

The daily records were exceeded several times since the start of the summer season, and the busiest day was August 2 when 20,380 people used the services of the Belgrade airport, the release states.

Belgrade airport's former CEO Velimir Radosavljević, who was replaced last week, said in January that Belgrade would end 2014 as the fastest growing capital city airport in Europe.
