Wizz Air denies it enjoyed privileged position

At the same time, "total air traffic in this period increased by 31 percent, by which the company Wizz Air became key to this growth."

"Unfortunately, Serbian passengers and visitors to Serbia are forced to narrow their choice of airlines to the one that wants to be a monopoly, and it is Air Serbia," said a statement, and added:

"The intention to shift the baseless allegation to the contract between Wizz Air and the Belgrade airport is dangerous, and comes precisely at a time when the contract that the Serbian government has with Etihad is being checked by the EU. That company in Serbia has support from the state, which, with non-transparent incentives, protects Air Serbia and Etihad securing a discount of 100 percent on passenger transfer duties, that is, payment of no airport taxes in Belgrade."

Radosavljević was detained on suspicion that he concluded an agreement with Wizz Air that allowed the company to use airport services below cost, and thus make financial gains at the expense of the airport and the state budget.

A few months ago, the Hungarian low-cost airline decided to reduce the number of flights to and from Belgrade because of high airport costs. Wizz Air also announced in April that it was discriminated against in Serbia, when speculation started about whether the company in fact enjoyed a privileged position.
