Serbia lowest-ranked in region on enabling trade index

Serbia fell on the list of the Global Enabling Trade Report of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and is now 89th among 138 countries.

Serbia lowest-ranked in region on enabling trade index

According to market access criteria it now occupies the 112th position, 78th in terms of customs administration efficiency, 69th in infrastructure and 104th where the business environment is measured.

The report cited the identification of potential markets and buyers, inappropriate production technology and training, technical standards and demands from abroad, access to finance, and difficulties in fulfilling buyers' demands in terms of quality and quantity as the key problems on the export side.

The most problematic factors for Serbia in imports are the complicated import procedures, customs, local standards, border corruption, inadequate telecommunications infrastructure.

All regional countries are ranked better than Serbia - Slovenia (38), followed by Montenegro (49), Croatia (56), Albania (69), Macedonia (63), and Bosnia-Herzegovina (78).

The data in the report is based on assessments by national authorities, international agencies and private sources, Beta reported.
