BELGRADE Daehaeng Kim, IMF's resident representative, say sthe stabilization of public debt which doubled since 2008 should be an economic priority for Serbia in 2014. In the short-term, the main challenges for Serbia will be relatively modest economic growth, an unacceptably high unemployment rate of 25 percent, and a high budget deficit, Kim said at a conference titled "New Economy- Vision 2014". "Stabilization of public debt - Serbia's priority" Serbian authorities must ensure macroeconomic stability and conduct structural reforms, which would then lay foundations for a sustainable growth, he underscored. According to Kim, the measures that the government set forth in the fiscal strategy give a reason for optimism in relation to that. The IMF resident representative underlined the importance of changing the laws on labor and privatization, ensuring a sustainable pension system and public administration overhaul. (Tanjug) Tanjug
