NUREMBERG The average purchasing power of consumers in 42 countries in Europe is EUR 12,890, while in Serbia this number stands at EUR 3,032, Beta is reporting. The figures are contained in a new study produced by the global research company GfK, entitled "Purchasing Power in Europe 2013/2014," the news agency said. Purchasing power significantly lower than Europe average Despite the fact that the increase in foreign investors in Serbia demonstrates the country's potential, it remains at spot 34 in this year's purchasing power rankings, GfK said in a press release. Of the 42 countries, Liechtenstein topped the list with EUR 58,844, 4.5 times the European average. Switzerland and Norway followed with EUR 36,352 and EUR 31,70 7, respectively. Other Scandinavian countries are in the top ten on the list except Iceland, which is 13th. The study calculated that "the 7.2 million inhabitants of Serbia have a total purchasing power of EUR 22 billion, which is EUR 3,032 per person, which puts Serbia in spot 34 in Europe," Beta said. Twenty three percent of Serbia's inhabitants, according to the study, live in the Belgrade region, "but this is where 30 percent of the available purchasing power of the entire country is located, with an average of EUR 3,891 - 28 percent higher than the state average." GfK said in a press release that "countries that are already EU members - Romania, Hungary, Croatia - have higher purchasing power than Serbia" - with the exception of Bulgaria, where the figure is EUR 2,919. At the bottom of the list are "Kosovo, Belarus, and Moldova," where the average per capita is less than EUR 2,000. Moldovans have an average disposable income of just EUR 1,257. GfK purchasing power values correspond to the nominally available income - the values are not adjusted for inflation and do not reflect regional price variations. The basis of calculation is data on income tax as well as statistics on government benefits and forecasts by economic institutes. B92 Beta
