BELGRADE Serbia is showing first signs of exit from the crisis, Aleksandar Ljubic, state secretary in the Ministry of Economy and Finance, stated on Tuesday. After a long fall in the last year and the first quarter of this year, Serbia has recorded an increase in industrial production of over five percent and a GDP growth of nearly two percent, Ljubic said. Serbia shows "signs" of exit from economic crisis “These are good indicators as they show that our predictions about the GDP growth of two percent this year are correct,” Ljubic told reporters ahead of the beginning of a roundtable dubbed “Has Serbia exited recession formally as well?” held at Tanjug's Press Center. However, he said that the first signs of the economic recovery still do not mean anything for the citizens, since it is not only Serbia, but also the entire EU that are in great crisis. “The intention of the Serbian government and the ministry is to continue to implement measures which are primarily directed at helping the economy, more specifically small and mid-sized companies that are the backbone of the country's development,” Ljubic said. “In order for Serbia to feel change for the better and opening of new jobs, it needs an industrial growth of five to seven percent for a few years in a row,” Ljubic underlined. The reforms will continue in future, and we hope for recent end of the crisis in the EU since the Serbian market greatly depends on the EU as nearly 65 percent of Serbia's products are exported to the EU market, Ljubic concluded.
