Official unemployment rate in Serbia 22.4%

Unemployment rate in Serbia was 22.4 percent in October - a decrease compared to April, when it totaled 25.5 percent, the Statistical Office has announced.

BELGRADE Unemployment rate in Serbia was 22.4 percent in October - a decrease compared to April, when it totaled 25.5 percent, the Statistical Office has announced. Unemployment rate, presenting the share of the unemployed in total active population (employed and unemployed) in the Republic of Serbia amounted to 21.5 percent regarding the male population and 23.7 percent regarding the female. Official unemployment rate in Serbia 22.4% Unemployment rate in the region of Belgrade amounted to 20.1 percent and in the province of Vojvodina to 25.7 percent. In the region of Sumadija and western Serbia, unemployment rate was 20.3 percent, while in the region of southern and eastern Serbia, it amounted to 23.8 percent. Employment rate presents the percentage of the employed in total population aged 15 and over and in October 2012, it amounted to 36.7 percent. Additionally, employment rate of males was 44.0 percent, while of females it was 29.8 percent. The highest employment rate was recorded in Sumadija and western Serbia, amounting to 40.3 percent, in Belgrade - 35.8 percent, in southern and eastern regions - 35.1 percent, and finally in Vojvodina - 34.9 percent. Unemployment rate in October 2012 decreased by 3.1percent when compared to April 2012, while employment rate increased by 2.4 percent. Unemployment rate in October 2012 decreased by 1.3 percent, compared to October 2011, while employment rate increased by 1.4 percent. Informal employment rate in October 2012 increased by 0.1 percent, in comparison to October 2011 and by 0.9 percent, related to April 2012. Informal employment presents share of persons employed in non-observed (black) sector of economy, out of total number of the employed. Non-observed economy covers employees in non-registered companies, employees in registered company, but without any legal working contract and without social and pension insurance, also including unpaid family workers. The Labor Force Survey was conducted in October 2012, on the sample of approximately 8,000 households. Unemployment rate in the region of Belgrade amounted to 20.1 percent and in the province of Vojvodina to 25.7 percent. In the region of Šumadija and western Serbia, unemployment rate was 20.3 percent, while in the region of southern and eastern Serbia, it amounted to 23.8 percent.
