“Concern over dinar instability exaggerated”

National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Dejan Soskic has stated that the concern over the dinar instability is way too exaggerated. He recalled that similar movements were recorded 15 months ago. “Concern over dinar instability exaggerated” Soskic told daily Vecernje novosti that it was clear that the concern over the instability of the domestic currency had appeared due to the trends in the international market, but that it was way too emphasized. Furthermore, he recalled that 15 months ago the exchange rate stood at RSD 107, while today it is RSD 109 for one euro. The governor said that all commercial banks were solvent and that their dinar and foreign currency reserves were large. “The problem is not in the solvency of banks, but rather in the real sector, its insufficient productivity and competitiveness,” he was quoted as saying.
