PM's energy sector adviser and former energy minister Petar Skundric says Serbia will in the mid-term invest a total of EUR 11bn in the sector. According to him, this will be "more than ever in the last three decades" "Serbia will invest EUR 11bn in energy sector" "The investment cycle started three years ago, and until now we have invested EUR 4 billion in capital repairs and environmental protection in electric power plants Kostolac and Nikola Tesla, and the general repair of aggregate six in hydroelectric power plant Djerdap," said the former minister of energy and mining at the opening of the 24th international conference EKOS 2011 in Novi Sad. According to him, another EUR 5bn will be invested in new energy capacities such as Kolubara 2, Nikola Tesla 3, hydroelectric power plants on the Drina, Lim and Ibar Rivers and reversible electric power plant Bistrica, and additional EUR 2bn in renewable energy resources. “Another EUR 2bn will go to the gas sector, for the construction of the South Corridor pipeline and the new gas storage,” Skundric said. Speaking of the further development of the sector of energy in Serbia, he underlined that two factors are important for that process: one political, and the other of a more complex nature. “The first factor is based on our intention to join the EU, and the other accentuates the need for a sustainable economic and energy growth. The goal of the Serbian government is a further economic growth, with maximum environmental protection,” Skundric underlined.
