Unemployment in Serbia reached 22.2 percent at the end of April, a 19.2 percent rise compared to October last year when it was last measured. This is according to the data released by the state statistical office on Thursday. Unemployment in Serbia rises to 22.2 percent The unemployment rate, which measures the number of jobless in the labor force, totaled 22 percent among men and 22.5 percent among women. At the end of April, unemployment totaled 18.9 percent in the Belgrade region and 22.9 percent in Vojvodina. In the Sumadija region and in western Serbia, unemployment was 22 percent, and as much as 24.8 percent in southern and eastern Serbia. The employment rate, which measures the percentage of employed in the total population over 15 years of age, totaled 36.2 percent in April - 43.2 percent among men and 29.8 percent among women. The unemployment rate grew three percentage points in April 2011 compared to the same month last year, as well as compared to October 2010. At the same time, the employment rate dropped 1.9 percentage points compared to April 2010 and 1.5 percentage points compared to October 2010.
