Incentives given to businesses in Kosovo

Minister for Kosovo-Metohija Goran Bogdanovic delivered in Kosovska Mitrovica on Friday the incentives to local businessmen. This should created conditions for opening of some 60 new jobs in the province, said reports. Incentives given to businesses in Kosovo Bogdanovic said that over EUR 34mn worth of incentives have been allocated to 34 businessmen from Kosovo-Metohija for production and service activities. The minister underscored that that the Serbian government is continuing to invest in Kosovo and that the only way for people to survive is for them to be able to have jobs and support themselves. “The government is committed to this task and we will continue to implement such activities. We intend to allocate another portion of incentives by the end of the year, with a special emphasis on incentives for agriculture, and we will also launch activities aimed at repair of agricultural machines,” Bogdanovic said. He recalled that the Ministry for Kosovo-Metohija carried out projects in municipalities of Novo Brdo, Strpce and Dragas this year, and underscored that implementation of such activities will continue in October as well, because some local self-governments did not have the time to file their project applications. He said that while allocating the incentives, the government paid special attention to territorial distribution, and noted that 61 percent of funds went to businessmen to the south of the Ibar River - where Serbs live in scattered and isolated enclaves. In the north, they form a majority of the population. This is the fourth time in the past two years that the Serbian government allocated funds for production enhancement in Kosovo, which represents a continuation of a campaign launched early in 2009.
