Former National Bank of Serbia governor Radovan Jelašić said that he hopes that the central bank would not have to implement unpopular decision any time soon.

Former National Bank of Serbia governor Radovan Jelasic said that he hopes that the central bank would not have to implement unpopular decision any time soon. Jelasic, who formally stepped down today when his replacement was elected in parliament, said that the monetary policies cannot be replacements for significant cuts in fiscal policies and structural reform. Ex-NBS chief says he "did all he could" “Serbia is getting used to new macroeconomic conditions, and the new model of economic growth must be based on investments and exports,” Jelasic said during his farewell press conference in Belgrade. “I felt that I did everything I could while at the NBS, which does not mean that I will not have the energy to return to the NBS if someone charms me into it,” Jelasic said. “Serbia is getting used to new macroeconomic conditions, and the new model of economic growth must be based on investments and exports,” Jelašić said during his farewell press conference in Belgrade.

“I felt that I did everything I could while at the NBS, which does not mean that I will not have the energy to return to the NBS if someone charms me into it,” Jelašić said.

The former governor also dened that he received an offer to become the governor of the Hungarian central bank.
