Trade between Serbia, Russia decreases

Foreign trade between Serbia and Russia in the first half of 2009 is half of what it was in the same period of last year—totaling USD 1.1bn.

Foreign trade between Serbia and Russia in the first half of 2009 is half of what it was in the same period of last year—totaling USD 1.1bn. According to statistics from the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, Serbia has a deficit of USD 831.6mn in trade with Russia, adding that the decrease in trade is a result of the economic crisis. Trade between Serbia, Russia decreases Exports from Serbia dropped by about 48 percent in relation to the first six months of last year and were worth a total of USD 147.7mn. Imports were also decreased by about 49 percent and totaled USD 979.3mn. The decrease in imports was caused by the gas crisis in January and the decrease of gas and coal being distributed and shipped this year. The decrease in exports was greatly effected by the decrease in the export of fruits and vegetables, which decreased six-fold, as well as the fact that a lot less frozen fruits and vegetables were shipped out of the country. Russia is Serbia’s eighth partner in order with exports, with a participation of 3.91 percent, and the first in imports with a participation of 13.24 percent. Exports were covered 15 percent with exports.
