The National Infrastructure Council has tasked the Energy and Finance Ministries with drafting a plan to produce 5 million cu m of gas a day at Banatski Dvor. The Council session, chaired by President Boris Tadic, was attended by Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and Srbijagas CEO Dusan Bajatovic and fellow board members from the company, announced the president’s press service. Ministries to draft gas storage plan Energy and Mining Minister Petar Skundric said that the impact of the gas crisis had been minimal and that there had not been a country better organized than Serbia. Skundric stressed that all energy entities had worked actively to alleviate the negative effects of the crisis. “It turned out that in serious and critical situations, the state was able to act responsibly and respond to the circumstances at hand in the best possible manner, which is a guarantee for citizens’ and economic entities’ most vital needs,“ said the minister. Even though, according to the minister, Serbia came through the crisis smoothly, Srbijagas officials nevertheless asked the government to approve a further increase in gas prices. Srbijagasa CEO Dusan Bajatovic said that the company had sought an 18 percent price increase, but that it was up to the government to decide whether to approve it. Bajatovic stressed that a further EUR 21.8mn was required to complete work on the Banatski Dvor reservoir, and that the government would attempt to allocate the necessary funds to accumulate state reserves at Banatski Dvor via a budget review.
