The Alpine Porr consortium has withdrawn from all the elements of the Horgos-Pozega concession contract, reports say. Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic has confirmed for Belgrade's Blic daily that a letter from the Austrian consortium was sent to the Serbian government, addressed to him, Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic and Spatial Planning Minister Oliver Dulic. Concessionaire drops highway deal The letter informed that Alpine Porr are dropping out not only from the concession contract, but will also not take part in the future tender. Mrkonjic, however, could not confirm whether the Austrians had paid the full amount of the banking guarantee specified in the contract signed last year, and said that negotiations on the termination of the deal have not been finalized yet, pending agreement on the details. These negotiations are led by Cvetkovic on behalf of the state. Previously, one of his deputies, Mladjan Dinkic, was in charge of this. Earlier this year, the concessionaire requested to build a section of the highway that is a part of Corridor 10 in exchange for withdrawing from the overall contract. However, Alpine Porr wished to win this job outside the tender procedure. Serbia granted the then Spanish-Austrian consortium FCC - Alpine-Mayreder a concession to build and maintain the Horgos-Pozega highway in March 2007. FCC later withdrew from the deal. Previously, in November 2006, the consortium won the tender to finalize, use and maintain the highway, designed to run from the northern to the central parts of Serbia. The concession was to span 25 years, while the construction was expected to last four years.
