B92 understands Fiat has yet to decide which privatization model to apply to Zastava, but the investment should exceed the earlier touted figure of EUR 300mn. Should Fiat go through with the takeover, they are expected to buy a 70 percent holding in the company, leaving the state 30 percent. Fiat still contemplating Zastava purchase B92 understands that the memorandum of intent could be signed on May 6. In the meantime, Economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic said that Fiat was also interested in the production of new models at Zastava. Dinkic said that the Italian automotive giant was interested both in buying Zastava. and the assembly of new models there to be sold on the EU market. “That’s why it’s very important for export to be duty-free. It is currently duty-free, but signing the agreement with the EU guarantees it, seals duty-free export,” he stressed. The Fiat delegation discussed the matter with the Kragujevac outfit’s management and trade union today.
