Bozidar Djelic says there are "so far" no initiatives for Kosovo to become a member of the International Monetary Fund, IMF. Djelic, the deputy premier in the caretaker government, and a high ranking DS official, is in Washington, attending the spring sessions of the World Bank and the IMF. "No initiative for Kosovo's IMF membership" He revealed he learned that no such initiative existed as he met with IMF's Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Earlier, Djelic warned that "Serbia would have difficulties to prevent Kosovo acceptance" in these financial institutions, "since this matter would be decided by the majority of capital of the countries that recognized Kosovo's independence". Today, he said that Strauss-Kahn was informed about the state policy, where Belgrade "will never recognize Kosovo and will do all in its power to block the province from entering the IMF". The main features of Serbia's economy are fast growth in the investment sector, but also those risks stemming from the high trade deficit, and new challenges brought on by the worsening of the global economic outlook. "We have presented an analysis, and we expect that, in the weeks to come, we will continue our dialogue with the IMF," Djelic said, and explained that the caretaker government has no capacity to negotiate a new arrangement with this international financial organization.
