Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica addressed a delegation of the Council of Foreign Investors today. Kostunica said that further economic progress was very important for Serbia, and that direct foreign investment was especially important for achieving that aim. Kostunica in bid to reassure foreign investors The prime minister told the investors, headed by Council President Stein Erik Velan, that parliamentary elections, just like in all free and democratic countries, could not in any way affect the influx of foreign investment, the government public relations office said. He called on foreign investors to up their investment in Serbia, because it had been demonstrated that Serbia was the best place for investment in the region, and that the adoption of the new Constitution and numerous systemic laws guaranteed full legal security for all investors. According to Kostunica, Serbia would step up its fight for Kosovo, adding that more foreign investment "can only help us on the international scene to protect the rights of Serbia as guaranteed by the UN Charter." Velan said that foreign investors understood the situation Serbia found itself in, and that by investing in Serbia, they had taken the responsibility to achieve a joint goal—the country’s further economic development. He pointed out that it was very important for foreign investors who were doing business in Serbia to be reassured of the clear orientation towards a stable business climate, as well as a guarantee of equal conditions for all doing business in the country..
