In September, inflation exceeded 6.5 percent, says the Statistical Office said Friday. The price of goods and services in Serbia in September is 0.8 percent up on August, and 6.9 percent up on last December. Inflation in September tops 6.5 percent The data released today shows that this meant that inflation had exceeded the yearly target of 6.5 percent, but the Office representatives did not wish to speculate as to what might happen to prices until the end of the year at a press conference in the government building today. Finance Minister Mirko Cvetkovic earlier predicted that, by the end of the year, inflation would most probably be around the 8.5 percent mark, while the central bank Governor Radovan Jelasic said only yesterday that the base rate of inflation, planned to be in between four and eight percent, will be between four and 4.5 percent. In September, the highest prices rises came in the food industry at 3.9 percent, while agricultural products were 2.5 percent more expensive. The price of beverages went up 0.8 percent, while industrial non-food products were 0.2 percent cheaper. The cost of living was 1.8 percent up on August, and 8.1 percent on last December.
