BELGRADE Farmers, certain experts and Vojvodina Executive Council have called on the authorities to declare the state of natural disaster due to extreme drought. Local-self governments are assessing the damage caused by the severe drought. Authorities urged to declare natural disaster due to drought The Vojvodina Executive Council will send a request to the Serbian government to declare the state of natural disaster in the province due to the damage to the crops caused by the drought. On the other hand, it has been determined at the Vojvodina Executive Council meeting that the corn yield in fields with irrigation systems will be record high this year. Soya crops are expected to yield around 70 percent less than planned and sugar beet between 40 and 50 percent less if there is no rainfall soon. In present conditions, it can be expected that sunflower crops will yield from 20 to 25 percent less than planned, reads the release. The Vojvodina Executive Council has instructed the Provincial Secretariat for Agriculture to prepare a special notice for all local-self government in Vojvodina about actions in the case of natural disaster.
