The Putevi Srbije company will try to get the approval of the government for increasing the prices of highway tolls by 11 percent. The company will be sending the government an analysis and comparison of the toll prices in neighboring countries, Putevi Srbije Deputy CEO Slavoljub Tucic said. Demand for increasing highway tolls “It will be seen that we are less expensive than Croatia, and we hope that our demand will be approved,” Tucic said. “Since we did not have any of the planned construction, and we are in debt for paying the complete expropriation, we do not have money for maintenance and for maintaining the network of over 15,000 kilometers of roads,” he said. Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjic, however, said last month that tolls would not be increasing and that the government is not willing to negotiate this stance. If the government does agree to the demand, however, tolls for cars traveling from Belgrade to Nis would cost RSD 810 instead of the current RSD 730. (Beta archive)
