Slovenia’s Gorenje home appliances manufacturer will begin to move its production to Serbia at the end of March, reports said. Only the production of its most expensive products will remain in Slovenia, according to this. Slovenian manufacturer “to move production to Serbia” Gorenje will move the production of refrigerators and freezers to its factory in Valjevo, western Serbia, which was opened in 2006. The reported relocation planned opened up the issue of layoffs in the company’s hometown of Velenje, and Slovenian media said Gorenje “could not give any answers to that question yet”. Gorenje employs a total of 10,580 workers in Slovenia, Serbia and the Czech Republic, with most of them in Slovenia – 7,700. According to the company’s previous statements, “soft methods of adjusting the number of employees” would be applied, meaning that the number of workers would be reduced by 350.
