"Serbia owes Russia nothing over NIS"
21 November 2009 | 09:03 | Source: Politika
BELGRADE -- Energy Minister Petar Škundrić said that Serbia has no obligations to Russia regarding the financial losses of oil company NIS in 2008.

He told daily Politika that the supervisor of the Ernst & Young auditing company confirmed that the losses of NIS in 2008 total about RSD 8bn (some EUR 86mn), adding that the report by that company is expected to be approved by the NIS board of directors on Monday.

“This report has no influence on the arrangement with Gazpromneft. The owner relations remain unchanged, and if the board of directors confirms the validity of this auditing statement, the total capital worth of the company will be decreased by RSD 8bn,” Škundrić said.

Asked whether Serbia is ready for another possible gas crisis this year, Škundrić said that there are reserves ready that will supply Serbia with gas for 90 days, which is “incomparably better” than last year's situation.

“The underground Banatski Dvor storage facility can currently produce about 1.2 million cubic meters of gas. By the end of December it will be able to produce three, and in February five million. We have already reserved and added 200 million cubic meters of gas from Hungary,” he said.

Commenting the possibilities of gas price changes, Škundrić said that gas prices would decrease in 2010.

He said that the price of electrical energy would also change, adding that the change will depend on the proposal of the Energy Agency and whether it is confirmed.
