United Russia wins convincingly in Duma elections

The election commission announced on Monday that United Russia has won 76.22 percent of the vote. It means the party will have as many as 105 seats more compared to the previous Duma.

The Communist Party will have 42 mandates (9.34 percent), followed by Liberal Democratic Party (39 - 8.67 percent), A Just Russia (23 - 5.11 percent), while Rodina, Civic Platform (Grazhdanskaya Platforma) and independent Vladislav Reznik will have one mandate each, TASS has reported.

In 2011, when the turnout was 60.21 percent, United Russia won a little over 49 percent.

111 million people were eligible to vote on Sunday, with 47.55 percent casting their ballots.

According to TASS, the election for Russia’s lower house of parliament was organized "in a split system" with 225 members of the Duma elected by party tickets, and another 225 in one-seat constituencies.
