In an interview that will be broadcaster on Wednesday evening, Pavlovic also said that the arrest warrant for Thaci was issued ten years ago "but is now not active because he has immunity."

He added that this, however, does not mean that the country that issued the arrest warrant - i.e., Serbia - has given up on it.

"It has been decided that the warrant and all information related to the case not be processed while the person is in office that gives them immunity. That does not mean that the state which issued the warrant had canceled it. Interpol is excluding itself in terms of the activities related to that person," the Interpol official said.

He explained that Interpol "will not be involved until the person in question is in office."

The issue of the warrant for Thaci's arrest came up when he was visiting Sarajevo in May.
