This refers to the victory of the electoral list headed by Vucic, comprised of a coalition led by his Serb Progressive Party (SNS), in the April 24 snap parliamentary elections.

"Citizens of Serbia have supported your effort and vision as prime minister over the past two years, and rewarded you with their trust to lead the country on the EU path," Tusk and Juncker said in the letter.

They also said that Serbia was a valued partner to the European Union in both the region and beyond, and we look forward to continuing to work closely together with your country.

"We are confident that you will continue giving your best to get Serbia closer to the European Union, as we firmly believe that your country's future is there," the two most senior EU officials told the Serbian prime minister.

The prime minister and the EU official also discussed continuation of political and economic reforms and work to accelerate Serbia's European path.

Vucic said that the new government would continue making significant contribution to regional cooperation and stability, the Serbian government said, as quoted by Tanjug.
