SNS councilors in local assembly "throw ballot boxes"

The Progressives caused the incident "dissatisfied with the way the oldest councilor Sreten Radovanovic was presiding over the first meeting of the assembly."

Before throwing the boxes, they made several attempts to interrupt the proceedings.

Security intervened to escort some councilors out of the room. The assembly resumed its work in the afternoon, after SNS councilors were removed.

In the wake of the April 24 local elections, Sabac will have a ruling coalition gathered around former Mayor Nebojsa Zelenovic that includes several local and regional citizens' groups, as well as the DS, the SPO, New Party, New Serbia, the Serbian Left, and former SDS members who have formed a separate group.

The SNS-PUPS and the SPS-JS coalitions are in opposition with 28 and two councilors, respectively.

Reacting to today's incident, Nebojsa Zelenovic told reporters:

"It has become clear to all citizens in Sabac and Serbia today why Sabac residents gave their trust to me and my coalition partners. The SNS councilors have demonstrated only destructiveness and evil."

The SNS reacted later in the day by saying that "a local media" had edited the footage from the assembly today in a manner that suggested that the incident took place. The Progressives, however, denied this, and said they would release their own, "unedited" video material.
