Serbian currency slide against euro "halted" at end of week

The dinar (RSD) is holding steady against the euro (EUR) on Friday with official middle exchange rate at RSD 123.2485 for one euro, the central bank (NBS) said.

Serbian currency slide against euro "halted" at end of week

On Thursday, the central bank sold EUR 30 million to prevent the rate from being too volatile.

Against the single European currency, the dinar is 1.6 percent down on the month and 0.3 percent up on the year. Since the start of the year, it has slid by 1.3 percent.

The indicative dinar-to-dollar rate strengthened 0.4 percent to RSD 112.8133 per dollar.

Against the U.S. currency, the dinar weakened by 2.0 percent when compared to the level registered a month ago, and 2.9 percent relative to the level a year ago.

Since the beginning of 2016, the central bank sold a total of EUR 210 million to ease the volatility of the rate.
