Some 40 percent of Germans think Chancellor Angela Merkel should resign over her refugee policy, the Focus magazine has reported.

40 percent of Germans think Merkel should step down

2,047 people took part in the poll conducted January 22-25.

Reuters noted in its report that the policy in question has resulted in Germany taking in 1.1 million asylum seekers in 2015.

German analyst Michael Spreng recently said Merkel would be under great pressure in the next eight weeks and that her cabinet may be forced to opt for a vote of confidence in the German parliament.
