Experts, central bank "not worried" about exchange rate

The national currency dropped by 0.9 percent against the eurozone currency compared to a month ago and by 0.2 percent compared to a year ago.

The dinar-to-dollar indicative exchange rate dropped by 0.2 percent to RSD 113.5249.

The dinar dropped by 2.2 percent against the U.S. currency compared to a month ago and by 4.7 percent compared to a year ago.

Since the beginning of the year, the NBS has sold EUR 120 million on the interbank foreign exchange market to curb excessive fluctuations of the daily exchange rate.

According to experts, the weakening of the national currency is "no reason for worry," describing it as "the customary seasonal fall after the holidays."

NBS officials are also not concerned, saying that "this time last year saw a similar exchange rate," and noted that early parliamentary elections "have nothing to do" with the drop in the value of the dinar.

Over the past year, the Serbian currency had the highest value against the euro on October 1, when the exchange rate was RSD 119.7 for one euro.
