Gate to desecrated church in Pristina sealed

Pristina-based RTK2 broadcaster reported today that the metal door "had not been closed adequately, so homeless people used the temple."

One gate will remain usable, with the keys currently held by the ministry. The report said there was unofficial information that one pair of keys "would be given to the European Commission."

Pristina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti told RTK2 that "the case concerning the temple is being considered by a court" and was "an issue more political in nature." As for the recent desecration of the church by ethnic Albanian protesters, he described their behavior as "inappropriate - but done out of ignorance."

Last Saturday a group of opposition supporters urinated inside the church. They had gathered in Pristina to seek the annulment of the Brussels agreement on the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, and of a demarcation agreement with Montenegro.
