A total of 20 votes were cast against, nine in favor, while two councilors abstained.

Representatives of some parties in the local assembly left the room before the voting took place.

The initiative to make the Serbian prime minister an honorary citizen came from Slavko Fustic of the Serb People's Party. He commented on the outcome of the vote to say he was "disappointed."

The nearby municipality of Berane previously declared Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic its honorary citizen.
