Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic has said he will not attend the Albania-Serbia Euro 2016 qualifier in Elbasan.

Vucic: I am not going to Elbasan because of politicization

Vucic said in an open letter to the public that he had made the decision not to travel to Elbasan after several phone conversations with his Albanian counterpart Edi Rama, as he wanted to make sure that the spotlight is on the players in the match (and not someone else).

Vucic sharply condemned the attack by Albanian hooligans on Serbia's football team that occurred while the team were on their way from the airport to a hotel in Tirana on Wednesday.

"I demand from the Albanian authorities to ensure full security for all Serbian citizens attending this sporting event before, during and after the match," Vucic said in the letter, which was posted on the website of Belgrade-based daily Blic.

Vucic stressed that during the previous year, Serbia and Albania had worked very hard to improve mutual understanding and establish regular contacts after decades of silence and frozen hostility.
