FM: Refugee problem should be solved "at its root"

Erecting walls and fences and closing borders is certainly not a solution, Dacic said, adding that everyone should show solidarity in order to find a sustainable solution.

The head of Serbian diplomacy talked about the challenges of the refugee crisis in New York at a meeting dubbed "Strengthening cooperation on migration and refugee movements in the perspective of the new development agenda," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued in a statement.

Dacic also conferred with his Argentine counterpart Hector Timerman on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meeting.

Timerman thanked Serbia for backing the UN General Assembly's Resolution on Basic Principles on Sovereign Debt Restructuring Processes adopted on September 10, 2015.

He also inquired about the situation in Kosovo and Metohija and the course of Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. Timerman once again pointed to Argentina's principled stance not to recognize Kosovo's independence, proclaimed unilaterally in the southern Serbian province by ethnic Albanians.

Dacic invited Timerman to visit Serbia, the statement said.
