Europe cannot sweep the problem of refugees from the Middle East and northern Africa under the carpet, it needs to find a joint solution, says Tomislav Nikolic.

Nikolic: Europe cannot sweep migrant problem under carpet

He pointed to the security causes behind the refugee crisis and recalled that a major force initiated several wars in the Middle East, justifying all the actions as moral, just and aimed at establishing democracy and ending dictatorship.

Nikolic underscored that Europe must not be selfish and that it needs to show its humane face, the better one which it certainly still has.

The situation in the field is completely different, however, and the EU is closing itself for migrants and trying to put up fences through the governments of neighboring countries which are not handling the circumstances well, he said.

Nikolic recalled that Hungarian forces even threw tear gas at refugees on the territory of Serbia, and underscored that this is absolutely unacceptable.

Serbia does not need assistance to put up walls because the country will never do this, but it will build apartment blocks either where refugees would live for years on end, Nikolic said.

We do not need EU's assistance, we need its most powerful members to finally produce an answer to the refugee crisis, the Serbian president stated.
